The Process of Canadian Reconciliation

The Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada (TRC) made 94 specific calls to action to redress the legacy of residential schools and advance the process of Canadian reconciliation. Canada’s reconciliation initiatives will not happen without all of us taking an active part.

The TRC includes sweeping recommendations to hold an inquiry into Missing and Murdered Aboriginal Women and Girls, implement the United Nations Declaration on Indigenous Peoples, accept Lower Court Decisions currently under appeal, and the address discrimination in Family and Child Welfare and Education funding.

How can YOU take part?

Aboriginal Awareness Canada

Our training courses directly answer 8 of the TRC calls to action.

Our Aboriginal Awareness Training meets all the TRC recommendations that ask for skills-based training in intercultural competency.

8 TRC recommendations ask for training that includes education on Aboriginal history, the legacy of residential schools, treaties and Indigenous rights, Indigenous law, Aboriginal-Crown relations, conflict resolution, human rights, and anti-racism.

Each of the 8 TRC recommendations call upon different sectors or groups of Canadians:

#24 Medical and nursing schools in Canada.
#27 Federation of Law Societies of Canada and their lawyer members.
#57 Federal, provincial, territorial, and municipal governments and all public servants.
#62 & #63 Federal, provincial, territorial, and municipal government’s education systems on all levels from K – University.
#86 Canadian journalism programs and media schools.
#92 Corporations to adopt UNDRIP, provide education to all staff, and formally commit to meaningful consultation with Indigenous peoples.
#93 Newcomers to Canada.
